John Wesley's New Room
Hidden away in the centre of Bristol, remarkably untouched by WW2 bombs, lies the oldest Wesleyan chapel in the world. Reckless Orchard was commissioned to turn the bleak courtyard and carpark of this Grade 1 Listed building into a garden. Extensive consultations with English Heritage, Bristol City Council and the Methodist Church's own conservation body followed. A 3D computer model of the proposed scheme was constructed so that it could be viewed from all angles. The finished scheme provides a green oasis, with echoes of Georgian gardens and plants chosen to reflect John Wesleys interest in herbalism.
